10th March 2021
Early on Monday 22nd February 2021 Wyvern Savings and Loans were subjected to a cyber attack. The attack encrypted the office computer server and backup data drive which left us unable to access our core systems, including email, for some time.
As soon as we became aware of the attack we began work with our IT support specialists to restore our systems to normal operation. Our systems were restored on Monday 1st March, and our processing was back up to date Tuesday 2nd March.
We understand that this incident will be of concern to members and we assure you that despite the disruption to normal service that you might have experienced, your savings remained safe and secure. All Wyvern’s liquid assets are held in bank and deposit accounts with the Cooperative Bank and Barclays Bank, and access to those accounts is subject to several controls outside our core system. Your savings remain protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, up to £85,000 per depositor.
It is possible that the attacker could have accessed some members’ personal data held on our system, including contact details, account balances and transactions, and bank account details (where we hold these). Accordingly, members should be vigilant especially for any unusual contact. We will never call you to ask for passwords or PIN numbers. Further guidance is included with the Q&As below.
Click here for more information, including a Q&A to try to address questions you may have.
We have also set up a dedicated email account (email@example.com) which members can use to raise any concerns or questions they may have directly.
